Active Ingredient: Amikacin Sulfate 250mg/ml
 
Amikacin is an antibiotic that is used to treat serious bacterial infections in horses. Amikacin is a bactericidal antibiotic, meaning that it kills the bacteria that are sensitive to the antibiotic. Amikacin is most effective against gram-negative bacteria and has no effect whatsoever on fungI, viruses, or anaerobic (which are bacteria that grow where there is no oxygen).
 
Amikacin and Gentamicin are antibiotics from the same family. Some of the gram-negative bacteria that are resistant to gentamicin remain sensitive to Amikacin.  This is why in many situations, both antibiotics are used together.
 
Amikacin is also used with hyaluronic acid along with a steroid for joints.
